Overview

The Bellingham Festival of Music presents an evening of fabulous classical music featuring Maestro Michael Palmer with the Festival Orchestra, highlighted by world renowned violinist Joshua Bell.

Maestro Palmer's reputation is firmly established as one of the finest classical conductors in the country. Members of the Festival Orchestra all hold artistically prestigious positions elsewhere, and many of them are principal players in major North American symphony orchestras. Joshua Bell needs no introduction - he is one of the finest violinists in the world.

Maestro Palmer begins this evening with Samuel Barber's Overture to The School for Scandal, an overture that helped establish Barber's musical reputation. Barber remains on the program as Joshua Bell takes the stage performing Barber's violin concerto, a piece that has been steadily growing in popularity since its composition in 1939.

Following the intermission, Maestro Palmer and the Festival Orchestra perform The Swan of Tuonela, a tone poem by Jean Sibelius. Then Bell returns to perform the rhapsodicTzigane by Maurice Ravel. The evening closes on a high note with a selection of Dvorak'sunforgettable Slavonic Dances.
