Mount Baker Theatre Special Event

After nearly 60 years performing her custom blend of folk, rock, and gospel music, Joan Baez continues to deliver a captivating stage show. This singer-songwriter, who first topped the charts with her popular ballad “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” helped shape modern American music, collaborating with the likes of Judy Collins and Paul Simon, and famously introducing the world to her pal Bob Dylan. In recent years, her passion for collaborative mentoring has led to projects with previous MBT musicians such as Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls. Baez’s latest recordings offer heartfelt interpretations of songs by venerable artists ranging from Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger to the Beatles and Rolling Stones, as well as Jackson Browne, Stevie Wonder, and Natalie Merchant.

Throughout her music, Baez expresses herself as a socially conscious living archive of some of modern American history’s most significant events. She marched in the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, Jr., organized resistance to the Vietnam War, sang on the first Amnesty International tour, and, more recently, stood alongside Nelson Mandela as the world celebrated his 90th birthday. In 2007 she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, her influence on American culture and music deemed incalculable.
