Whatcom Symphony Orchestra Presents:

Beethoven’s Pastorale

The unpredictability of nature, and the personal journeys of both composers and soloist meet in this program that spotlights the evocative sound of the oboe. Alex Klein’s story is compelling: an early success, winning the principal oboe chair of the Chicago Symphony at age 30, then having to leave the orchestra due to musician’s focal dystonia, only to find a path back, and recently, against all odds, regaining his chair. We are very happy for him, and are very excited to have him join us this year.

He will be playing Strauss’s witty, lyrical Concerto for Oboe. The afternoon will also include Honegger’s meditative Pastorale d’été, and finish with the incomparable Pastorale, an emotional journey written by a man who also knew a thing or two about perseverance.

Join us for this evocative program reflecting on both the personal and pastoral experience.

Pastorale d’été – Honegger
