A talented group of young performers, the advanced repertory ensemble from Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth brings a special resonance to Stephen Sondheim’s classic fairy tale mash-up, a hilarious, poignant, and powerful re-telling that dares to ask what happens after the happily ever after.
Into the Woods is notoriously daunting for a high school cast, both musically and thematically. But the BAAY Rep students, whose ages range from 13-17, are more than up to the challenge. Directed by David Post, with musical direction by Steve Barnes and choreography by Lisa Markowitz, this troupe delivers a level of artistic and emotional maturity that belies their years. The principals from BAAY’s 2013 production have reunited for the current tour, with performances in Seattle, Portland, Ashland, and Bellingham.
Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director David Post, BAAY is a non-profit arts education organization offering instruction in choir, theater, dance, music, and visual arts to young people ages 5-15. A beloved fixture in Bellingham’s thriving arts community, the company has produced over 40 musicals to date. Into the Woods is BAAY’s first theatrical production to go on tour. Don’t miss it!
