Opera Latte is two short comic operas about coffee: La Serva Padrona by Pergolesi and The Coffee Cantata by J.S. Bach. The works represent the musical theater of the Baroque period. In one, an arrogant maid cons her master into marrying her so she won’t have to submit to a mistress. In the other, a father berates his daughter for her coffee habit. Eventually, daughter and father reconcile when he agrees to have a guaranteed three cups of coffee a day written into her marriage contract (remember, this was written in 1735).
The production features local singers Wendy Donaghy, John Poppke, Caitlin Hill, Lesley Rigg, Tristan Wine, local actor Christopher Key, and is staged and directed by Rob Viens, with live chamber orchestra.
