Health & Safety Plan from Mount Baker Theatre

Updated January 3, 2023

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Mount Baker Theatre has reflected policies in alignment with federal, state, and local health authorities, as well as our industry peers.

Today, based on the significant downward trend of COVID-19 cases and Whatcom County, Washington State, and CDC guidance, Mount Baker Theatre is ending the requirement that staff and volunteers wear masks for most events. Wearing masks will now be optional and encouraged for all patrons, staff, and volunteers. Free masks will still be available at our door, and many patrons will continue to wear a mask by choice.

Please note that some events, such as Bellingham Symphony Orchestra concerts, will continue to require masks per the request of the artist(s) or organization renting the theatre. These requirements are noted in each event’s description on our website and will be honored.

Thank you for your support and loyalty as Mount Baker Theatre continues to make adjustments to our policies based on the latest official guidance. Any further changes to our procedures will be communicated via email, our website, and social media.

-John Purdie, Executive Director

Masking Optional and Encouraged

Masks are optional for all patrons regardless of vaccination status.  Non-woven, multi-layer masks are available for free at the door.

New Air Purification System
Medical-grade ultraviolet (UV) light filters have been added to our HVAC system. These remove 99% of airborne viruses and bacteria and ionize the air to remove odors.

The purified and ionized air is pushed up through the main, loge, and balcony floors and then pulled up through the ceiling. This vertical flow minimizes horizontal air movement and contact with other patrons.

Our HVAC exchanges the air every 10 minutes, creating excellent ventilation and further minimizing contact with other patrons.

COVID Health & Safety Practices

  • All MBT employees are fully vaccinated, and most have also gotten a booster dose.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building, including entry doors, restrooms, and lobby.
  • All high-touch areas (counters, doors, etc.) are frequently sanitized.
  • Contactless payment methods are encouraged (e.g. credit cards with RFID Chips or other Near Field Communication [NFC] devices).
  • Mount Baker Theatre reserves the right to perform a contactless temperature check of patrons as needed.

Anyone visiting Mount Baker Theatre voluntarily assumes all risk associated with exposure to COVID-19, and agrees to abide by all policies as well as posted and/or verbal direction by Mount Baker Theatre staff. Thank you for supporting Mount Baker Theatre and for helping to keep each other healthy and safe.
