Mount Baker Theatre Presents
Bill Nye
Bill Nye is an American science educator, engineer, television presenter, comedian, inventor, and New York Times bestselling author. As the co-creator and host of the Emmy Award-winning ‘90s television series Bill Nye the Science Guy, Nye has helped introduce science and engineering in an entertaining and accessible way to generations of viewers, fostering an understanding and appreciation for the science that makes our world work.
Nye speaks on a variety of topics during his live shows — many of which are mirrored in his books — including space and planetary science, climate change, environmental issues, current events in science, and his extensive background in television and education.
For 15 years, Nye served as CEO of The Planetary Society, the world’s largest and most influential non-governmental space organization co-founded by Carl Sagan, and is now the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and Chief Ambassador for the organization. He also serves as host and executive producer of The End is Nye, a science series that explores epic global disasters, which occur both naturally and unnaturally.
Off screen, Nye has authored three New York Times bestselling books – Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World, and Everything All At Once: How to Unleash Your Inner Nerd, Tap into Radical Curiosity and Solve Any Problem. Nye has served as the host of the Emmy-nominated series Bill Nye Saves the World on Netflix, and is the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary Bill Nye: Science Guy which premiered at SXSW in 2017 and later aired on PBS.
In May 2019, Nye launched the science-themed podcast Science Rules! with Bill Nye along with co-host and veteran journalist Corey S. Powell, where they answer listener questions on just about anything in the universe alongside experts and special celebrity guests. The podcast was named one of the “eight podcasts about science and technology that are worth your time” by The New York Times.
Nye’s lifelong commitment to science advocacy has earned him various honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, inclusion in the TIME 100 Health List, a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Children’s and Family Emmys. Today, Nye is a respected champion of scientific literacy through his work challenging opponents of evidence-based education and policy on climate change, evolution, and critical thinking.
