MBT Lookout Sessions Presents

Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert is a true American treasure, a fact underscored by his 21st album, Daylight Savings Time. Like all his albums, it is suffused with poetic melodies and Forbert’s gift for finding magic and meaning in life’s everyday moments.

In 1976, the Mississippi native arrived in New York City and quickly became a fixture in the new folk revival scene, performing at legendary clubs like Folk City, The Bitter End, and Kenny’s Castaways. He also crossed musical lines, playing biker-bar-turned-punk epicenter CBGB, busking the streets of Greenwich Village, and even performing in the halls of Grand Central Station.

A major label deal with Nemperor/CBS Records followed, and Forbert’s 1978 debut Alive on Arrival put him on the map. The 1979 release of Jackrabbit Slim brought him wider fame with the hit single “Romeo’s Tune,” securing his place as a modern troubadour whose songs have resonated for decades.

Now, as he approaches the milestone of his 70th birthday, Daylight Savings Time offers a reflective and optimistic embrace of the extra hour that comes with the time change. On its first single, “Sound Existence,” Forbert sings, “Yeah to chirping crickets and to daylight savings time /The best ain’t yet to come, but you could still get by just fine” with a fitting reminder of his enduring artistry and spirit.
